Palestinian leaders must bite the bullet

As much as one may love or loath the United States and Isreal and the alliance between the two, the fact is that the power they hold over world affairs is here to stay. The only foreseeable way that Palestinians are going to attain a future that is in any way more optimistic than the misery that they currently endure is by cooperating with their enemies on the other side of the border.

As the infamous borg used to say in Star Trek, “resistence is futile”. And in the case of the Israeli – Palestinian conflict, I would argue that resistance has become futile for the Palestinians. Their military power is incomparible with that of the Israelis, in fact it is almost laughable to place the two in the same sentence when discussing military power. If peace talks are to ever progress in the region, the Palestians must renounce all violence. There is no way that terrorism will bring the Palestinians peace. It’s a sad reality, but one that I have been contemplating today in light of the recent escalation in violence between the two sides.

What the leaders of places like the Palestinian territories must realise is that the only way they can achieve future peace for their people is to comply with the existing world power structure. You can’t change international power structures overnight, so sad as it may sound the only way to progress in the current climate is to accept Western hegemony and just roll with it.
